St. Louis Microbrewery Tour - Modern Brewery

We are visiting every St. Louis microbrewery to help highlight the variety, quality and fine spaces we have to enjoy a fresh beer in our fair city.

We stopped at Modern Brewery at 5200 Oakland Avenue in the Kings Oak Neighborhood.

This location is relatively new and is visible from I-64 just west of the Science Center and east of St. Louis Community College - Forest Park Campus. According to city records, it was built in 1954 and is owned by Paraquad LLC.

The tasting room has a full selection of beers and food from Kings Oak. The brewing still takes place at the previous location at 5231 Manchester Avenue. Kings Oak is a pretty great name considering the neighborhood and the collaboration with Olive + Oak, a restaurant based in the suburbs west of St. Louis.

Modern suffered damage from copious rains in 2022 and they lost their retaining wall in front of the small patio when it was Bloom Cafe.

They are in the process of rebuilding bigger and better. I look forward to the outdoor space that overlooks Forest Park and the Central West End skyline, just north of I-64.

This place just happens to brew my wife’s favorite IPA. Everything we’ve tried is pretty solid.

The new tasting room is, well, modern in look and feel. It is a bright, airy space that will appeal to many.
