This $4.3M project was was a clear win for St. Louis preservation, another beautiful Ittner school building was sold by SLPS to a developer who is turning this into 55 market rate apartments. The sale price was $680,000 back in 2016. A win-win for SLPS and the developer.
Per the SLPS website:
“This W.B. Ittner-designed historic building -- located in the Cherokee Street District, just west of the Lemp Brewery -- is ideal for mixed, residential or commercial reuses. It was named for Elihu Shepard (1795-1876), founder of the Missouri Historical Society.”
The school, built in 1906, is at 3450 Wisconsin just off Cherokee Street in the shadow of the Lemp Brewery.
A gorgeous setting, I am thrilled upon visiting the site today and finding it under construction!
The homes across the street from Shepard School are classic beauties of varied styles. I am blown away by Marine Villa every time I visit. It is a prime example of the beauty that our city offers.
The details on this Ittner work of art are stunning and seeing the tall, new windows is a joy. The views of Lemp are unmatched. What a perfect place to live.
It seems like every year we take a look back at the development happening around town, there is a school renovation on the list. Last year, the fantastic news of Clark School being renovated was on our list. I’m happy to report that I contacted the developer and confirmed that renovation is well underway with apartments hitting the market in early 2019.
With Shepard School apartments, it will be a joy to have more people calling Marine Villa home. What a major preservation win for St. Louis. Yay!
